It was a quiet, peaceful day in Castle Rausten.
Aldith was having a bit of a 'lazy day' experience, and found herself wishing that Dye was feeling the impact of that too. The older siblings was having difficulty keeping up with her spunky younger sister's seemingly boundless energy, and finally after walking around the castle's gardens with Dionisia she just decided to call it a day with that. It wasn't that she didn't love her sister, she did. Dearly. Aldith just didn't have the energy to keep up with her at that moment.
So instead, Aldith returned to the Castle Courtyard, sitting down on one of the stone benches with her hands folded neatly in her lap. Everything she did had a sense of regality and grace, and it wasn't just because she was raised to be that way. It came naturally, something that Dionisia hadn't shown signs of inheriting. But Aldith thought of the girl fondly, and even now brief thoughts of her younger sister brought an affectionate smile to her pale face.
Out of the two, it was Aldith who truly resembled her ancestor L'Arachel in outward appearance, but that was where the blatant similarities seemed to come to an end. Their hair color was the same tone, and while there were some similarities in their personalities it was not overly obvious. Dye however, had the personality without having the outward resemblance. Her hair was a darker shade, as were her eyes. She even had more color to her skin than Aldith, probably because she was always outside exploring and such.
Aldith was suddenly snapped from her reverie by a gentle breeze of wind stirring her long hair, and she instantly moved to hold it back. Letting the strands fall back over her face once the wind had calmed. She didn't know how the day had ended up being such a quiet one, she had been certain that it was going to be a full day of Empress duties. But, she had been wrong. And even though she should be taking advantage of it and spending quality time with Dionisia, here she was. Spending the time alone in the courtyard, lost in thought.

(text by MELANIE.EATSAIRPLANE on CAUTION) [Words by A Day To Remember]It was one of the rare days when Roisenor brought Henri with him to work. His wolf-dog had refused to leave his side this morning, so Rois just made it a point to not let him stray too far form him as they went through the day. The group training had been finished and he'd even done some personal spars, but as a small treat to Henri for behaving, he decided to let his wolf-dog lead him around to explore. Rois wasn't surprised that Henri led him to the castle courtyard. There were many beautiful flowers and plants in the courtyard that the wolf-dog wouldn't have seen in his woods. He tried to keep a sharp eye on his companion, but the day was calm and beautiful, and the expertly placed landscape of the courtyard demanded his own attention.
He breathed deeply as a breeze blew directly against his face, bringing a cool, refreshing feeling that was quite welcome. The action relaxed his body, releasing the tense muscles from their worked stiffness. It felt good to let go--
It was too good to last. The sound of a rough bark and tiny shriek of surprise, which he realized later was even a bit of a gasp, brought his stiffness back at the surprise. He just about cursed his dog and ran in the direction of the sounds, though it wasn't that far away. He immediately grabbed his wolf-dog's scruff and pulled him back from whatever it was roughly, popping his head in scolding. "HENRI! Bad dog! Look at me! Look at me. Henri, look at me. Henri, sit. SIT! Henri, listen to me! SIT!" Only when he finally got his wolf-dog's attention on him enough to obey a command did he turn to look what his dog had barked at. He had to bite his in order to not truly display his frustration. Maybe today wasn't his day after all. His dog had just barked at the empress of Rausten.
"My Lady Aldith, greatest of apologies. Henri hasn't ever been around this area of the castle and unfamiliar scents must be getting to him. He's usually much more behaved, I assure you," Roisenor explained professionally, almost like a businessman. "He didn't scare you, did he? I promise he won't hurt you, he was probably just surprised to find a new person." He looked into her golden eyes with sincerity, maybe a small clue to who he was, but this was one of those willingly times.Outfit: fc07.deviantart.net/fs48/f/2009/202/8/a/Zack_by_sypri.jpg

It was such a nice day...Aldith was just about to let herself lean her head back, but the peace did not last. She of all people should have known better than to trust that it would. Just as her face was basking in the sunlight, the sound of a dog barking extremely close to her startled her. Enough that she let out a gasp of a shriek. The dog was huge, and it was barking at her. Apart from flinching and scooting down the bench to put some distance between her and the dog, she did nothing.
It was too much of a shock.
"HENRI! Bad dog!"
[/b] Aldith blinked in surprise when she saw a hand grab the animal's scruff. She looked up to see it was a young man, around her age, pulling 'Henri' back and away from her. He continued to struggle to get the dog's attention -- which now that she got a good look at him, seemed more wolf than dog -- but it still took him a moment to get the animal's attention and get him to sit down and calm. Slowly, she started sitting up straight, hands returning to her lap. Her liquid golden eyes were fixed on the man's face, trying to place the vague familiarity about his countenance. And, then the ma realized in whose presence he was in. "My Lady Aldith, greatest of apologies. Henri hasn't ever been around this area of the castle and unfamiliar scents must be getting to him. He's usually much more behaved, I assure you,"[/b] Really, she shouldn't be surprised at the sudden rush of formalities. Even though not all of her people agreed with her inherited rank, they still tended to show the 'proper' respect. In reality, she saw this as a barrier, and wondered briefly what this man's position on the opinion of her being the Empress was. But it was brief curiosity, it would be wrong to ask. Focused again on the situation at hand, she opened her mouth a small bit, just about to reply, when the young man continued. "He didn't scare you, did he? I promise he won't hurt you, he was probably just surprised to find a new person."[/b] Aldith couldn't help a small, huff of a laugh at the man's explanation for his dog's -- apparently named Henri -- behavior. She lifted slim hand in a gesture for him to stop, a gentle and kind smile on her face. Her heart rate much calmer now that the whole situation had diffused. "It's fine, really." She said, meeting his gaze evenly with her own. "He probably smelled Laika's scent on me, she's a Fennec fox." Aldith added, hoping to maybe relax this man's formal tone. "He only startled me. Really, I'm fine." ▐ T A G G E D » ROIS! <3 ▐ W O R D S » 0 4 6 3 ▐ O U T F I T » OUTFIT▐ L Y R I C S » PANIC AT THE DISCO ▐ N O T E S » D'AWWW, SUCH A NORMAL START. (text by MELANIE.EATSAIRPLANE on CAUTION) [Words by A Day To Remember]Roisenor let out a sigh of relief, very glad she wasn't angry with him or Henri. It would make things really difficult for him if his dog couldn't ever come back to the castle. "A fennec fox, eh? I've never actually seen one before, just read about them. I've heard they're quite the charmers," he said, a certain touch of sophistication in his voice that brought out some of his helpless charm. It was a normal kind of tone for him, though. He enjoyed being able to show that he was educated, unlike he might have been had his mother married a different man. "What's she like? She--is female, right?" Caught up in his interest, Rois sat down beside the empress. He looked her in the eye with sincere interest and leaned over with hands together and elbows rested on his thighs. The knight was utterly oblivious that she didn't know/remember his name, simply because of his curiosity. He barely noticed Henri move from his spot to sit beside his master, the wolf-dog still rigid with suspicion and not necessarily happy with the position. If Rois was paying attention he would have noticed his beloved companion looking back and forth between the empress and him. When the dog looked at him, his gaze was worried and pleading. However, when the dog looked at the empress, it was sort of warning but not quite threatening.

Aldith couldn't help a small smile at the signs of the man's relief, and nodded when he commented on Fennec foxes, that smile still present. "She's really quite adorable," she started, "but also a bit...spirited." Aldith had paused only to search for the right word to use to describe Laika's personality. Spit-fire would work, but spirited was a term she preferred. It made her sound much more pleasant, because Laika never intended to be mean to anyone. She just expressed herself as freely as she wished, which often meant that the Fennec fox was actually frustrated with Aldith at times. Since she was always so eager to please her people, and Laika did not believe that meant that the Empress was being honest to herself. But Aldith did, because the people were the life line of the kingdom, and therefor they were her life.
The concept suddenly made her curious about this man -- what his name was and what his rank was -- and she decided she would very much like to satisfy that curiosity. But she had to do it politely, as she didn't want to be taken as rude. "If I may be so bold, may I ask you for your name?" She asked, a friendly smile coming to her countenance. She figured that was polite enough, he couldn't possibly take an insult from those words. She was tempted to pull the 'you know mine but I don't know yours' card, but restrained herself. She didn't think that was something an Empress of Rausten would say. Or at least, it wasn't something she would say. It was definitely something Dye or the late Lady L'Arachel would say.
But she was not as wildly open and outgoing as those two were, not that it was necessarily a bad thing. She spoke her mind, she just found quieter ways to go about doing it successfully. It may make her look unsuited for the throne, but once you got to know her you realized that that wasn't the case at all. Granted, she probably did have some confidence issues she wasn't consciously aware of, but it didn't really even matter. The people of Rausten were so in love with Lady L'Arachel, many of them didn't even want to give Aldith the time of day. And there were too many of them like that. She wanted desperately to change their opinions, but for the moment she would focus on the conversation at hand. After all, he wasn't going to change the opinion of an entire country overnight.

(text by MELANIE.EATSAIRPLANE on CAUTION) [Words by A Day To Remember] "Oh! Sorry, I didn't realize I hadn't introduced myself. My name's Roisenor Cassimir Zelki, a knight, but you can call me Rois," he said, his tone somewhere between casual and formal in a sort of semi-formal zone, a place where his voice tended to linger. As a typical gentleman, he sat up straight as he held out his hand to shake hers and looked her in the eye just as he was always taught. Their descriptions weren't exaggerations when it came to those eyes. Beautiful, deep, golden, and pure, they were the sweetest of honeys and the shiniest of amber with black circles trapped in the middle. He'd always thought the empress was beautiful when he saw her make announcements or pass by, but never did he think she'd be so breath-taking up close and personal. He didn't know how half of the army hadn't quit from desperation to be with the empress. Possibly because she's quiet in her casual times, he thought. Although Rois didn't find that bad at all--in fact he found it a rather great trait of hers--he knew that a lot of men wouldn't feel so comfortable or attracted to a quiet woman. They thought it meant she wasn't strong or confident, when in fact he was reading the opposite in the short bit of conversation.
When the small handshake and reply was over, Rois inquired once again. "Would you prefer for me to address you by a certain title or name, my Lady Aldith?" he asked, his tone maybe considered a bit sweet or naive, despite his still semi-formal tone. The question was meant in consideration, as was the logic through his head, but he denied the mixed feeling of excitement and want. Deep down he wanted his empress to request he call her by another name, something to make their conversation more personal. Not to go show off or tell to an outsider, but simply for his own small desire to be closer to her. Some small desire that she, too, might want to be a little closer to him; as friends . . . at least.

Roisenor Cassimir Zelki. She repeated in her mind, smiling at the knight again before slipping her hand into his. At least he wasn't bowing, that had to be something right? She hoped so. Aldith hoped his method of formalities meant that he approved of her, and that that was just his way. She hoped for this, because otherwise, it meant that he didn't, and this semi-formal tone was just a small way of expressing his distaste for her. That she wasn't worth being formal with. But there was something in Roisenor's eyes...something that told her that wasn't quite the case.
He seemed like an honest and sincere man, one who would tell an individual if he disapproved of them. Such honesty was rare, and she wondered briefly just how far his honesty went. If he would be bluntly honest with someone of rank, such as herself, and express himself freely. He seemed at least cordial with her now, but he still had that air of truthfulness to his eyes.... She felt like he wasn't the type to hide his thoughts or feelings, and who give an honest answer to a question, and lived an honest living. She wondered just how much of her judgment was correct.
"A...name?" She repeated quietly, a bit taken off guard to be quite honest. She let her hand slid slowly back to its previous spot, not entirely sure how to respond to such a question. It was a difficult decision for someone in such a position. If she allowed Roisenor to address her by a special name, and he told someone else or addressed her by it in front of other people, it would only cause her further grief. However, she couldn't very well just come out and tell him 'yes, but you can't tell anybody', that only made it sound like she didn't trust him. And herein lied the question: did she trust him?
Aldith was put in a difficult position here, because in truth she wanted to trust him. She wanted to have this little secret between them, it was the one rebellious thing she would ever do with her life. It was one of things, one of those very small things, you would regret never doing if you suddenly died the next day. With this thought in her mind, she decided to take a chance. Even if it ended up costing her her place, at least Dye might be granted the title Empress in her place. The people did adore her so much more because of her spirit and confidence. Y-...Yes." She said finally, hesitating in that one final moment of second-guessing herself.
She turned her eyes back to Roisenor, an uneasy and somewhat nervous gleam in her eyes, though it was pale in a way. Hardly noticeable unless you really looked. And it was gone in an instant, swallowed back up by Aldith's emotional guard. "You...you can just call me Aldith." She said, a small and nervous smile coming to her face. She couldn't hide her nerves from that. She had no nickname, not like Dye did, and so it would have to just be her first name. "I'm afraid it's nothing special...but-" But what? It was all she had? Aldith ended her words there, unsure how to continue. "And, what about you, Sir Zelki?" She asked, her regality and confidence back in her voice, though she feared Roisenor being able to see through it now.
"Is there a name by which you preferred to be called?"

(text by MELANIE.EATSAIRPLANE on CAUTION) [Words by A Day To Remember] "Just Rois, please. It does me enough honor for you to call me 'sir' once," he said warmly. He heard a small 'woof' from Henri, whom promptly pushed his way snuggly between their legs, sitting down purposefully. He looked at his dog quizzically, than smiled slightly with humor. "You are one unique pooch, Henri." He trailed absently and rubbed his dog's head fondly. Suddenly a new thought occured to him, and the knight started with worry. "I'm delaying anything for you, am I? I'd hate to be the cause of your tardiness, Aldith," he asked quickly.
