He's never been great at battle strategy and instead has always been good at organization. He's serious, and a bit more in touch with his feelings than his captain. He doesn't let them show very openly, but you can always tell if he's in a mood. He's not the kind of guy to make the jokes, but enjoys them. He will laugh quite loudly if it's an appropriate time, but under work hours he would hardly give a single chuckle. He knows how to have a good time, but takes his job very seriously. Thomas doesn't tend to be stressed easily because of his diligent and effective work ethics. When things don't go as planned, he's quick to make new, effective plans on a moment's notice. This makes him a very useful quartermaster during storms or rough waves and winds. He's friendly and understanding, but intolerable of anyone shirking their responsibilities. In a lot of ways he keeps Captain Salem in line, but they somehow turned out to be best friends. His calm, cool, and scheduled attitude evens out Salem's outgoing, carefree, and whim-of-the-moment personality. Thomas has had a hard past. If ever caught with short sleeves or sandals, you will see many disfigured and scarred skin. He'd had a bad life on land. Taxes were rough, the weather unforgiving to the crops, and the little livestock skinnier than ever. With a family to feed, as his father was dead and his brother too young to work, Thomas set out to the sea in hopes of better pay and better life. It was not to be so. He joined the royal ships of his country, and was treated with the worst brutality he'd ever witnessed. There was hardly any food to go around, the little food there was had been contaminated and rotten, and Thomas was one of the few who ate the rats and not fatally sickened. He tried to defy the captain of the ship, but was only put through more brutal punishment until he was hackled down in chains to the spot where he worked. And he had to stay there. His punishment was never released. Instead he devoted his time to scheduling how he could and helping the new recruits to stay out of trouble. Once on the ship, you weren't coming off unless killed or released by some force of a greater God. Or a pirate ship. However, royal ships were hardly ever attacked in his country's area. He doesn't know how he survived. When he'd still tried to rebel in chains, they'd taken flames to his feet and the skin is still very tender to direct heat, such as walking on hot wood or pavement. There are some burn marks on his arms, too, and his entire body has at least a slim trace of being flogged on multiple occasions. If you were to look at his face closely you would see many faint scars of ripped skin. They used to be much more horrid, but have faded with time and his use of herbal remedies. He was saved by Salem, who was bold enough to attack a royal ship because he'd heard of the unfair treatment. His suspicions had been confirmed beyond his thoughts when he was told the captain treated them unfairly, and when he saw Thomas's condition. By then he'd had many untreated sicknesses, his complexion a pale and dying color, his skin was merely shreds, and there were bugs crawling all over him. Puss oozed out of infected wounds and he was so skinny you could wrap your thumb and index finger around his rib bones. The chains had ripped into his wrists and ankles so many times he'd failed to keep count. He was possibly on the verge of death, but he had the will to stay alive, a will that not many of his shipmates shared. All but Albert, the youngest recruit, chose to go back to their life on land, and Salem happily obliged to take them back to their country. The Captain of the ship, beheaded for his crimes against the men. Thomas, while he was healing, stayed on the Sunray's Steal, but Salem, with a few of the other men, brought his family to see him and even, without his request, gave them charity money so that they could buy better land and start a new life. From the letters he's received, that money has saved his family. His brother even has a wife and kids now. The sunray crew saved and took care of Thomas, and he's stayed with them ever since. He feels a tremendous debt to them. He couldn't imagine leaving his life as a pirate now, for it is good and fair to him. He's close to Albert, who'd taken a special interest in him from the beginning in trying to help him out in his terrible condition. The younger man reminds him of his brother, and is always checking up on how he is doing if he thinks he's overworked. Thomas is well into physical fitness by now, however, and enjoys his life at the sea. He knows now that his family is in a good place and he doesn't have to worry about them, or if he's going to be punished again in the next hour, or if he'll be able to catch a rat today. He's well fed, fit, and happy. ★ L I K E S: ♥ like one ★ D I S L I K E S: ✗ dislike one ★ E T C E T E R A: anything else we should know about your character?
