B.: December 17th ★ H E I G H T: 6 feet and 2 inches ★ W E I G H T: 175 lbs ★ A P P E A R A N C E: Salem sticks out like a sore thumb no matter where he goes, not a particularly useful trait for a wanted criminal. His bright lustrous, red hair falls half way down his back and is usually obstructing the view of the right side of his face. Salem's most distinguishing feature is hidden behind two obstacles. The first being his hair, the second being a fitted opera mask. The mask itself covers his right cheek, eye, and forehead. Salem has a small collection of masks, choosing which ever fits his current mood. His favorite being a featureless white mask. Salem prefers dressing the part of the pirate. A black frock coat, accented with dark breeches, and a wide brimmed hat makes up most of his usual outfit. Beneath Salem's mask is a grotesque sight and one of the reasons for his self imposed exile. During the attack on Jehanna hall the right half of his face caught fire. The flames licked away the flesh and his eye. The remains are little more than a skeleton, the skin having turned a bright red color. This feature along with his hair earned him the name Scarlet Wight. Salem rarely removes his mask. The few exceptions being when he bathes or when attempting to make a point. Salem often refers to the right side of his face as his good side when he's in a bad mood. Beyond this rather large disfigurement Salem is a moderately attractive man with a figure forged from his misspent youth. A slave to his whims, the Captain of the Morrígan never seems to have a particular goal in mind, beyond looting any ship that crosses his path. In fact, most often wonder if the man plans anything. His assaults are chaotic and often ill-timed. Whether it be luck or feigned carelessness the man's endeavors usually end on a good note. Every so often something will come along and tantalize his interest, setting him on a chase that last weeks sometimes months. His crew finds his whimsical nature tiresome, but remains by his side due to his charismatic nature and success. When not busy waiting for his next quarry Salem spends much of his time sleeping in his cabin or poring over some newly acquired book from his last theft. Very rarely does the man take anything seriously. Usually laughing at even the most inopportune of times. The one subject that instantly makes his usual grin vanish is the subject of his face. At the slightest mention of his scarred visage the mirth drains from his face and his features become set in a grim scowl. After the subject has been brought up one can expect rough seas. His violent tendencies lay much closer to the top, striking out at anyone who merely speaks the wrong word to him. In truth, the man is more violent than he often lets on. Having nothing in his adolescence and learning the power of the sword he feels little regret when dealing with wet work. Beneath the exterior of a criminal Salem is still a prince. He cares for his country, refusing to raid any Jehanna vessels he comes across. When he so chooses he can abandon his gruff exterior and summon up something that can almost be called charm. Salem often calling it his "roguish good looks." He is severely out of practice when it comes to the arts of the court and, at times, makes boorish mistakes. Despite his love for his nation and his people he abhors the idea of returning. Prince Roland Leviticus Brier of Jehanna, if one prefers title and niceties. Though, after a series of bizarre and terrible events he entered a self imposed exile. As Roland he lived a charmed life. Living in an extravagant palace, attending posh parties, and learning from the greatest minds in all of Magvel. It was not until a coup, enacted by a traitorous vassal, that his life went up in flames, along with half of his face. His family was able to beat back that usurper , but Roland left home, distressed with his defeat and scarred visage. He threw off his title, his trappings, and his name. With no knowledge of the commoner's world he was forced to reside on the streets. He was thirteen at his defeat and remained on the streets for five years, stealing and scrapping to survive. The streets of Magvel, no matter where you went, only understood one thing; power. Whether in for form of money or by the sword. Salem was without money so he went the route of the sword. Mugging individuals and, unfortunately, dispatching those that tried to get in his way. His conscience first numbed and then rotted away under his heinous acts. He soon found himself looking to make more money. He chanced upon a Captain, looking to assemble a crew. Salem thought it was an easy way to earn more gold. He didn't know it would lead him upon his next career path. The rush of naval combat was intoxicating, more so than the ale and grog he knocked back. Salem served under the man for two years before his retirement. At that time Salem inherited all that the man left behind. His crew and his ship, the Morrígan. For the next four years Salem made a name for himself. Becoming known as the Scarlet Wight, due to his skeletal features and bright red hair.
