The. Fuck. What was this lie? What was this bullshit? When Zilo had said they were going somewhere, she had expected something along the lines of down the street. Not, like, another whole God damn city! This was such bullshit! She glared. Anahera just glared. At everything. People, inanimate objects, but specifically people. And especially Zilo. Since, clearly this was solely his fault.
Anahera, personally, didn't give a rat's ass about these stupid 'romantice events'. Plus, she had no idea why he would even consider dragging her, of all people, to a damn festival. And then, that wasn't even the best part. As she had to attend a ball as well. Anahera glowered, pouting and angry. She hated dancing. She hated being so close to people in the physical sense. She hated it when everyone was a fish in the water and she was clearly the cat trying to get away from the water. She hated feeling out of place.
And then, she was also fiercely concerned about Aroha. Which was odd, since she was also furious with her. There was no way Aroha hadn't known, she had been so happily waving...Anahera really should have known something was up. Its such a fucked up, bullshit conspiracy.... Damn these people! She refused to look at Zilo now, sharply turning her head away from him even as he tried to break the ice. A pang of guilt stabbed at her thought, his intentions had probable been good ones. But...but still! But regardless of how much Anahera attempted to talk herself back into being angry, it was hard to stay mad at Zilo.
Uh...so...." She started, avoiding eye contact and making a point of it, her head turned deliberately to the side opposite of where Zilo stood. "Why...why are we here?" She asked, bluntly. She didn't bother saying how conflicted she felt right now, she would never admit to the deep, hidden terror she felt at being away from home. Not just the house, not just the store, but the whole damned town. She dared to think that she missed it.... But, she would never admit to it, as it would admit weakness. But, for now, Anahera would settle with knowing why Zilo chose to drag her to this, instead of any of the other girls in Stanimir.
It was her way of apologizing.

So he finally stopped talking and walked with her. He didn’t know that it was out of town till the flyer came in with the address. Though he should of told her. But he didn’t, he wanted to take her here for a special day. To get her out of the shop and to have a fun time, standing there he was dressed in his full suit for the place. He didn’t bring his gloves this time. His hands had scars on it that showed he had been in battle before. And that he was no green recruit. But tonight he didn’t even carry his blade with him. Instead he left it with Anas’ little sister. Someone he had trusted with it. He didn’t know why but she had insisted he didn’t take the blade and she had talked him into taking ana with him to the event. But he was gonna take her little sister so she could have fun. But in the end he had chosen Ana. Suddenly he heard her speaking to him. Blinking slightly he turned and looked at the girl.
Smiling softly even though she wasn’t looking at him still he responded honestly with his thought. “Well me and your sister thought it would be a good idea to get you out of the house.” She had probably gotten use to Zilo calling them sisters. Because that is what they seemed like. Looking around and he turned and whisper into her ear. “And sides you look nice in that dress.” Pulling away he began to walk again this time not responding to her if she asked something. Knowing it would make her mad if he didn’t respond. But he would respond when she says his name in the sentence. And he knows the mad her likes to show a lot and she knows Zilo has been a bit use to it. Turning around he grabbed her hand slightly. Today he had his glasses off and he brought her towards him with a small pull.
Bringing her ever closer to him as he pointed ahead of themselves. “How about I try and win you something from the carnival here. I can try and win one of those stuffed dolls for ya.” He said turning and looking at a small stuffed animal. It looked exotic, they called it a panda. They weren’t around Renais so he wasn’t sure what they where. But the owner was calling out to come try a hand at the game and win the panda. And he was tempted to make Ana a little happy. Even if she was in a foul mood at the moment, he brushed that aside and let it sit in his mind. He didn’t know why but he wanted her to be happy. Pulling her along with him he turned and spoke to her.
Laughing slightly Zilo sat down on the stool. Looking at the game and thinking slightly. The man told him he had to hit 6 balloons with 3 darts. Hardly a fair task, but there was chance to hit two with one, especially if they where thrown at an angle towards the objective. Thinking for a moment he wound one back and launched it sideways. It bounced off one spinning and popping another balloon and two more along with it, before finally sticking to the wall. Turning towards her he walked around her and behind her and wrapped his arms around her ina friendly way placing the last two darts in her hands smiling. “But I think you would feel much better after throwing the darts at the balloons, Just picture they are me for doing this to ya.” He said pulling away waiting to see if she could hit the last two balloons, which he had no doubt she could.
Looking around he noticed that the place seemed to thin a little as the night progressed, most would be tired of the carnival and heading home about now. But ana and Zi had just arrived. The ball wasn’t till later tonight, and he planned on having ana have a little fun here and there. Even if it meant that he would suffer later. But he was planning this whole trip to cheer her up. Whispering one last time to her he spoke soft, with a velvet like voice. “I want you to enjoy yourself. I want you to have a fun time with me. And hope your not too upset with me. Because I think you look really cute tonight, even when you where angry and giving me the cold shoulder.” He said thinking about how she was earlier before she had spoke to him. [/style] |

Anahera had known all along this was some kind of conspiracy to get her to leave. She glanced over to the side at Zilo momentarily, an unmistakable glare in her gaze, her eyes narrowed. It was unfair in her mind, for them to plot and conspire together without giving her any form of warning! They knew she fucking hated God-damned puzzles! Why the fuck do this things happen to me...? Yes, she was used to him referring to Aroha as her sister, the pang that always accompanied that left.
Zilo still didn't know how Aroha ended up in her care, and she doubted whether or not their relationship was even clearly defined. Although she had corrected him that Aroha was not her sister in the past, she gave up and got used to it. He had to deal with so much more from her, and (although this never really occurred to her conscious mind) it was the least she could do to adapt to flaw within him. "Damn you and Aroha...just damn you both...." She muttered, now making a point of turning her back to him entirely. They must have seemed odd, a woman with her across crossed haughtily across her chest, eyes focused to the side of her gaze, back turned to the man was supposedly her 'date' for the night.... But she didn't care. She was too pissed off to even think of it.
She hadn't been paying attention, her senses dulled with sheer rage. And so when Zilo leaned forward he went undetected. So little was Anahera prepared for such an action, that the sensation of his breath on her ear caused her to flinch slightly, her body tensing with surprise before her heart started hammering in her chest. She was glad he couldn't see her face, because she was blushing profusely. It took a second for the words to sink in, and once they did she was confused. Dress? What dre- oh. Right. She was wearing a dress. Anahera hated wearing flowy, feminine clothes, but she had been told to wear a dress and that it would make sense later. She regretted ever not attacking Zilo that night when he returned for his sword...or at least, she was regretting it now.
This dress is stupid." She spat back while he pulling away, but then she remembered that she was mad at him. Anahera took a glance over her shoulder to see he was leaving, and for whatever reason that made her temper flare. "Hey! I'm not done with you!" She shouted, her hands shooting to her sides and balling into fists. "What makes you think you have the right to just drag me out here without even asking and then just walking away?! Real fucking brave!" She ranted, stomping after him with a pace just brisk enough to keep up with him, though she stayed behind him. "Bastard! Why the hell did I ever hire you to begin with? All you do it fucking clean shit and conspire with Aroha! Do you have any idea what could happen while I'm not there?!"
A flaw in her words gave away one of the reasons to her anxiety: concern. But she didn't notice, and wouldn't unless it was pointed out. But right now, she was getting more furious by the second. Simply because Zilo was being unresponsive. "Will you listen? Stop for one fucking second! Zilo-" She was cut off. Anahera nearly lost her balance simply at the feeling of something slender and warm wrapping around her hand loosely, though it was just enough to gently force -- aka coax -- the fist to unwind. Zilo was holding her hand. Anahera's eyes were widened in shock, no man had ever held her hand before, not like this. It was completely different from the way a toddler latched on to her Daddy's hand, and it made her throat tighten. For once, Anahera was completely speechless.
And to make matters worse, she felt heat rushing to her face. She didn't need a mirror to tell her she was blushing slightly, again. And then, when it didn't seem like it could possibly get worse, it did. With gentle, guiding tug, Zilo forced Anahera's body forward, closer to him. Her feet stumbled among each other and she nearly bumped right into him, but regained her balance just in time. She stared, wide-eyed and perfectly quiet, at Zilo's eyes. The closer he pulled her, the redder her face became. And he, of course, brought her even closer.... It was a good thing he was pointing, it gave her eyes a focal point that wasn't anywhere on or near Zilo's face. But she nearly flinched and blinked at the sensation of Zilo's breath ghosting across her face.
Her body was being annoying. Her heart was thudding loudly in her chest and she mentally cursed it to be silent. She didn't want Zilo to hear it, because then he might ask her about it. Anahera's response was delayed. She turned her face away when he did, using her long hair to her advantage, attempting to hide her face from Zilo. "Hmph. Whatever." Was the only pathetic response she could manage. She followed him, allowing him to pull her along with her hand in his, though she avoided his gaze. From embarrassment and frustration more than anger. She dared not speak, even she could realize when that only embarrass herself further. Well, 'embarrass' in the sense that she would look like a bumbling idiot, which was completely unacceptable. Raging idiot yes, bumbling idiot absolutely not.
Though Anahera would never admit it, Zilo's offer did have a positive affect on her. No one had ever done something for her for the sake of wanting to make her happy though, so as soon as the sense of almost being flattered was gone, a distrust settled in her. It calmed her body's responses to him, but she felt guilty for not trusting Zilo at this point. Not that she could help it regardless, and she put no effort into doing so. It was only when they stopped walking that Anahera realized her hand was still held loosely in his, limp. She stared at their hands a moment, while Zilo was speaking to the man. It was a long, drawn out fragment of a moment in time that she took now, memorizing the different aspects and shape and unique feel of Zilo's hand. For experimental purposes, she closed her hand around his in return, though there was only slight pressure added. She hadn't even noticed she'd done it.
Anahera's attention was snapped back to the game before them, that she forgot to let go of Zilo's hand. She listened to the rules, though her gaze rested on the balloons, calculating. It was a rare expression for her to have, but she was an ex-soldier. She looked at the game with military eyes, though she had never said anything about that part of her past to Zilo, so she doubted he noticed. Not that she would have cared even if he did. Her jaw nearly dropped when Zilo threw the first dart, but she only turned her head to the opposite side of him grudgingly. "I hate you." She said simply, it not occurring to her that her hand closed around his said otherwise. And then, suddenly, that hand was gone. It distracted her momentarily, and she looked down at her hand at the sudden cold that enveloped it. And then, suddenly, her body tensed and her back straightened, eyes stretched wide.
She was too shocked to do anything when Zilo wrapped his arms around her from behind and spoke to her, his breath tickling her neck and whisping her hair. But she forced herself to focus on his words. "Tch, I'm still mad at you." She spat, her voice muttering the words. It was childish yes, but it was Anahera. She started to take the darts from Zilo's hands, trying to minimize the skin-to-skin contact in the name of holding on to the insanity to actually do this properly. But the bastard just had to keep fucking talking. It wasn't only distracting in the usual sense, but it was distracting because it was Zilo. And he was close, and his breath tickled her, and she was supposed to be fucking mad at him! "I want you to have a fun time with me." How was supposed to respond to that?! God-dammit it all!
She paused, one of her hands stopping in the middle of aiming the dart. Her face brightened to a very noticeably crimson red shade, but luckily Zilo was behind her and would actually have to turn his head in order to see it. "Because I think you look really cute tonight, even when you where angry and giving me the cold shoulder." He...he liked it when she was...angry at him? Anahera didn't, couldn't focus on that right now. She suddenly felt a strong desire to win this game, and it became a challenge to her. One that her military mind could handle with great ease, and she tapped into that mind now. Without moving from where she stood, enveloped in Zilo's arms, Anahera aimed the second and third dart simultaneously. It was a risky move, but she wanted to show off. More than usual. Almost as if she had something to prove here, but she didn't even bother trying to figure out what that something was. All she would ever accomplish doing would be to give her a headache.
Anahera smirked before letting the darts go, shooting them so that their paths crossed each other. They sliced through the air on a diagonal line, taking out three balloons each, bringing her and Zilo's average above the minimal six required. "Ha!" She breathed, her voice low though it would have been easily heard by Zilo simply because of how close he was to her. The man was stunned, but reached to hand them the stuffed panda. However, in those brief heartbeats, Anahera felt a slight panic come over her. She didn't know what to do. For whatever reason, she felt glued to the spot she stood in, reluctant to move because it would mean separating herself from Zilo. But, at the same time, Anahera couldn't wait to put some distance between them. She hated these conflicting movements, and just settled on waiting for Zilo to respond first. Which, she was certain, would be rather soon. He responded promptly to things usually, and Anahera was counting on not having to wait long for the decision to be made for her.
Which was a contradiction in and of itself: it wasn't like her.

About how he and Aroha had set this up for her to have fun, her cussing got a little bit more “Lively”, in opinion of some. But her mood changed when she had spoke about something happening when she wasn’t there. Nodding in response he didn’t answer her. He was already taking off giving her the cold shoulder. And then it all progressed from there. Her hand was warm he noted before. It was almost completely soft and silky, but there was some rough edges on them that he had guessed from tough work. She had done before. Then her words had stung him like a thousand needles after he held her hand. “I hate you.” Is the words she spoke to him. And the other things, such as why did she even hire him what good was he, all that he did was clean, and all that he had done was make her life worse. Flinching, a bit he continued his fake smile, and continued to walk.
That was behind now, when she through the darts and hit three different targets in a diagonal line. Surprised, that they all popped and the girl’s small victory Ha scared him a little bit. He hadn’t expected her to shout all of the sudden. And what had surprised him even more was the look of triumph on her face. And then she seemed to freeze a little bit, and she seemed she couldn’t decide to leave him and the other side was telling her to go ahead and forget about him and that was something that he could sense. Sighing slightly he let go of her and walked over grabbing the panda and handing the thing to her. Backing up he smiled slightly and reached into his pocket. Pulling out 100 pounds he handed them to her. “Have fun with the games, I’m going to go look around.” With that he turned around and started to look at the games.
Leaving the girl standing there dumb founded by his sudden actions. He disappeared into the crowed. He stayed low to blend in and began to look around for a little while. He had some thoughts going through his head that he hadn’t planned on sharing with anyone. The way she had hated him, the way she had said that he was worthless. Even though he had wanted her to walk after him earlier he hadn’t expect those harsh things coming from her. Shaking his head he started to wonder. If he should not go back to the store, that if he should tell her they are going back before the ball. And then when she leaves and they get back to her store he bid her good night and be off on the road again. Or that he should just disappear right now so that she wouldn’t have to deal with his plotting.
But the way she frozed for the panda and the way she looked about going towards it and leaving him, or staying with him he saw something never before in her eyes. And that had brought him a slight sense of guilt. She had been thinking on what to do. And what she was going to do if she did go with the bear or stay with him. She had that look of confusion and doubt in her eyes. And that is what hurt the most. He had wanted her to have a fun time but he had taken that away from her and given her something that was even worse. He gave her doubt and confusion, two of the humans’ worst fears and emotions. Turning another corner he starred at the small carnival game right in front of him. It seemed to be something of a test your strength.
Walking up to it he looked at it questioningly, there was no way that something like this could possibly be that good of a testing device for your strength? Thinking for a moment he turned towards the man hollering at everyone to give it a try. Walking up to him he smiled and took out a few pounds and handed it to the man and walked towards the game. Picking up the hammer he read the rules. Ring the bell and earn a prize to keep. Hit it twice and a row and win the ultimate prize. Blinking slightly he nodded. Taking the hammer he hit the small round plate at the bottom. The force in his swing was the same strength as he did with his giant sword that he had all the time. It soared high and hit the bell with a loud ring. Taking another swing he hit the top and laughed softly stepping back. He watched as the mans draw dropped.
Walking away from the game with a giant white looking bear wrapped around his neck by its arms. Its arms where stitched together and he could put his head through it. This made carrying the giant thing a bit easier than just lugging it around. The white bear would block out the view of him from behind so that was a bonus. Turning slightly through another corner he saw something that caught his eye. It was a small fencing ring. Something he hadn’t seen since he was a small child. Most people didn’t believe in fencing anymore or sword play, they dabbled in magic and spears. Sometimes you’d find an occasional axe user. But it was rare to find a sword fighter now adays. Walking towards the ring he watched as two people went toe to toe.
They weren’t really all that good, so his interested was lost quickly, but it still surprised him and fascinated him that one would be here. Turning around and walking away from the small ring he began to walk further into the thicker parts of the crowd blending in. The sudden thoughts of Ana hit his head. He knew that she hated him a little bit. And that she was growing attached. But he couldn’t be stuck in one place. If he had continued he was sure the he himself would of fallen in love with her. And they both knew that was something that shouldn’t happen. She had sworn to stay at her shop, he was just someone that happened to walk by, and help her out one day. And then sooner than he knew it, Aroha had asked him to work for them.
Turning through another thicket in the carnival he brushed away the ideas. Ana probably had given up on finding him by now. And probably would of went back to the shop. It had been a while. Stopping at a small place he noticed that it was a small ballroom. Chuckling slightly he walked away from it and found a small haunted house. Blinking a little bit he was standing there debating. Should he go in there or should he stay…..The thoughts remained in his head as he stood there out in the open from the rest of the crowd. It was as if he was hypnotized by the haunted hospital building in front of him. Thoughts going through his head of what could be inside….

Anahera blinked first at the coldness from Zilo walking away, then at the bear, then at the money, and then at Zilo's fleeting form. He was walking away, again. Only this time, Anahera caught the hint that she was not supposed to follow him. Though she was angry, she was dumbfounded more than anything. Why had Zilo walked away? Was it something she said? No.... Can't be. Anahera couldn't help her slight feelings of disappointment. She was sure that Zilo was more used to- .... To what? Suddenly, she felt disappointed at herself, and guilty. She could just hear Aroha now, lecturing her on her lack of restraint. Her lack of tact. "There are better ways to express yourself!" Aroha had said to her once. "I suggest you find them!" Anahera sighed, letting her guard drop momentarily as she recalled the last bit of Aroha's words.
"Or else risk losing the people you care about."
It was almost a prophecy now. Some sick, twisted prophecy from a young teenaged girl. And the really twisted part, was that she wasn't supposed to care. Zilo was some passing stranger in their lives, and as far as she knew he could be planning on leaving in the next two days, or tomorrow morning even! This could have been his way of saying goodbye.... Which is exactly why Aroha was supposed to be the only person Anahera cared about, the center of her world. Anahera's life was dedicated to sister's daughter, irrevocably. Aroha was the only constant in Anahera's life, and her last remaining living blood family. Anahera found herself glaring at the ground, like this whole mess was somehow it's fault now. She shouldn't even be here, everything about this was all wrong! But then...why do I feel like such a mess?
This was a side of her, a piece of her, that no one left alive knew about anymore. From female gang thug, to soldier, to store-owner, Anahera's life is an enigma to most because most aren't around anymore. Sure, she never had to leave her town when she was a soldier, but that didn't meant there hadn't been any battles. And when she was a thug well...she tended to end those people herself. That was the darkest point in her life, and it took the death of her own sister and her brother-in-law to yank her out of it. She had taken in Aroha, and left the gang. Suffering their little ceremony of course, but surviving. Then there was the war, and she joined the army. Anahera excelled in this, her place had been on the battlefield. She was a surprisingly quick-thinker, and in the battles she did have to fight in, people tended to look to her as a second-in-command. She was calmer then, teased people sarcastically and only punched people lightly an in play.
But even then she hadn't been good enough, and no one is left to vouch for the potential her mind has to be logical. The potential she has to care, and allow her guard to drop. Anahera shook herself, she needed to find Zilo. Even if she currently wouldn't be able to give him or Aroha an explanation, she wasn't ready just yet to allow someone who was a part of her life go on such a note. She only wished there was a way to hide these things...so that she could be more efficient at searching, and have her hands free to defend herself if need be. An idea struck her, and Anahera approached a merchant booth. She purchased a small, cheap sewing kit, and headed for an alley. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but she was used to people not messing with her. Even if most of her history was blotchy to some people in her town, most at least vaguely recalled her gang days. That alone was a deterrent.
Anahera knelt so her back was to the crowd and carefully opened the back of the bear up, along the stitching. She worked the bag of money into it, and used the black string and needle to sew the hole back up again. A potential thief would be none the wiser. She grinned in triumph at her own work, and rose to her feet, brushing off her dress to begin her search. She didn't know why she was falling back to her knees, or why her head suddenly ached. All she could think of, was how she let her guard down, and what was going to happen to Aroha, and to Zilo. Would anyone even bother looking for her? Of course, these concerns weren't actually processed thoroughly, not consciously. But they did take shape once her body hit the cold ground, her hands still clutching onto the bear.
~~~~~~
When she woke up again, she wished she hadn't. Her head was throbbing, and without opening her eyes she shakily lifted a hand to it, as if that could stop the pain. Needless to say, she was grumpy. Grumpy, and in survival mode. Anahera forced her eyes to open through gritted teeth, using her free hand to push her body up into a sitting position despite the pain and dizziness. She looked around, blinking to help her eyes adjust to the sudden darkness faster. It was pitch black, only the moon shone through, and yet she could eventually make out enough detail to know that she was in an attic of some kind. The building seemed old, she realized there was dust on her from just having been there a little while. Or, at least, she hoped she had only been there a little while. No more than an hour.
Anahera looked around for any signs of the cowards who snuck up on her, but she found no sign of them. Baffled, she figured they had taken the bear with the money, and that they had seen her stash it. Because really, what thief would want to take a stuffed animal for any other reason? Unless maybe they just fail at the games. Oh yeah, sure. His girlfriend really wanted one and he couldn't win her one, so he knocked out some random girl and took it. She was surprised they had done anything else, which made them rookies in her mind. She had worked on both sides of the street, and instinctively could make at least a guess as to what was going on. A chuckle broke her concentration though (shocker), and she turned her head sharply to see who it was. A bad idea, since it only made her more dizzy.
It was some skinny punk and his two friends, chuckling and taunting her about how easy of a target she was. Their ringleader seemed older, and she squinted her eyes at him. Did she...know him? It was possible. Her old gang had many spats with rival gangs, specifically guy gangs. "Been a while, hasn't it?" He spat with a grin, and instantly she recognized it. "Camus." She hissed. Her gang had fought with his a long time ago, they were both mere members at the time though. She was shocked he remembered her. Then again, she did beat him up pretty badly. She realized now, that might have ruined his reputation in the gang. Still, she honestly didn't give a damn right now, she had more important things to tend to.
"Listen you bastard, get the hell outta my way now!" She spat, standing to her feet and forcing her body to stand straight. From experience, she knew she shouldn't be standing. She was dizzy still, and her body felt heavy, a smart person would wait until they had their strength back, or at the very least jump out of a window. After all, this was a festival right? There were bond to be people outside, which would definitely complicate the situation for these boys. The other two seemed no older than eighteen, and she pitied them. But she turned a glare back on Camus when he taunted her again. Anahera glared, but there was still that 'I don't care' look in her eyes. Camus didn't know about Aroha, his gang hadn't been native to Stanimir. He didn't know how much sharper her fighting skills were, how much stronger she was. All he knew, was that he had cheated.
He had weakened her, preventing from fighting back for the moment. This gave him confidence, and he approached her with this confidence. C'mon body, she mentally begged, don't fail me now! Anahera weighed her options, and without glancing at the window, decided it was her best option. Still, she had to get the bear back. Not only for the bear itself, but also the fact that Zilo's money was still in it. Still, she couldn't do that if she was dead. Nor would she be able to take care of Aroha, she'd be handed over to the system, made the property of the government. Which just wasn't happening. Without warning, Anahera interrupted Camus by running and leaping from the window, crossing her arms over her face to prevent the glass from scratching her face too badly.
She rolled forward once when she landed, placing her hands firmly on the ground to stop herself and panting a little. She was covered from head to toe in shards of glass, but she grinned still, hearing the shouts and curses from the other boys. Carefully, Anahera rose to her feet, flinching as she brushed the glass from her clothes with her hands. Her face, despite her efforts, suffered scratches; more specifically, her cheeks. Her hands were a mess, the palms shredded from wiping her fabric and the backs scratched from being the first part of her body to impact the window. I just jumped out of a fucking window. Head-first. And lived. Hot damn. Probably not the brightest idea, but it gave her some time. Looking around, she realized this was the back of the building, but that the sound of a breaking would most probably attract attention.
The building was even more decrepit on the outside than it was on the inside realized, looking back at it. She almost pitied the pitiful state it was in. From the eeriness of it, she guessed it was used as one of those haunted house attractions people were always going on about. She sighed, it was pathetic to use a house for such a purpose. She flinched when she heard crashing sounds coming from the inside, realizing that she was wasting perfectly good time standing there. She started to run around the house, circling to the other side. The truth was, she needed to get back in, to find the bear and the money and a possible weapon. Her dress, not just a foreign thing to her but foreign in nature, was torn from the glass on the sleeves, and that pissed her off to a point. It was a kimono, and it hadn't been cheap. "Tch. Little fuckers." She hissed. "Because I think you look really cute tonight, even when you where angry and giving me the cold shoulder." Anahera stared blankly ahead of her for a moment before refocusing a glare to the wall of the house.
Little bastards. I'll get them back for this! She pressed herself up against the outside wall, intent and focused yet nervous. Tiny beads of sweat trickled down the side of her face. She was bloody, sore, and tired. All she wanted to do was walk away and open the door to her store to find familiar things. A hot bath waiting for her. Aroha. Zilo.... Although she fiercely doubted she would ever see him again. She hadn't gotten the chance to look for him, and sensed that she failed him in that sense. He was probably long gone by now.... Another crash from the ground floor forced her back into focus, but it was too late. She had dropped her guard again, unable to find complete focus, and someone had thrown something through the window she had been standing next to. Anahera's eyes widened, and for a moment time slowed, before she closed her eyes and shielded her face with her already scratched arms. She felt the glass embed itself in her skin again, this time on her face and in her hair as well, and waited.
They had found her.
He didn’t know why it had attracted him. Something just felt wrong inside. Starring at it as if something had possessed him, Zilo couldn’t speak, he couldn’t move Just stood there transfixed on the small abandoned place. There wasn’t anyone going near the place it seemed it had been shut down. Looking at the gate the chain was broke, the wind wrapped through the bars of the big fence and howled and whistled different tunes. That was something that surprised him. He hadn’t seen a iron gate like this since he was at his house. Shaking his head he opened the gates.
The small scrapping sounds and creaking of the old gate filled the air. The sounds where harsh on the ears and for a second you could of swore that someone was crying, because of it. Looking around at the field it looked all too familiar. Shaking his head he began walking. Looking around at the details and looking at the small shadows dancing left to right among the broken shrubs and the dead trees. Of course it was a little cold out, but these things looked like they where burned for some strange reason. And it seemed that wasn’t all of his worries. He heard something in the distance. Turning his head to look and focus to pin point what was out there. But it surely did attract him.
There was a small hidden figure in the bushes. Walking over to it he cleared out some of the leaves and the dirt. And there was something that made his eye widen a bit. It was Anas bear that they had won together. Standing up clutching the bear he felt something inside. Not bothering to check he was thinking thoughts running through his mind. He couldn’t imagine he just throwing away something like that, sure he could see her giving it to Aroha but that was about it. Not just taking it and throwing it over a fence into an abandoned place. Looking around some thoughts came into his head. Thoughts that made him worry and distracted.
What in the world is going on here. I know that Ana isn’t like this. She wouldn’t just get rid of something because of someone walking off. And that’s even if she truly hated the item. And I know one thing of a fact. She wouldn’t throw it into the air and hope it made it over the fence, she would of probably given it to Aroha. I don’t understand this at all. For some reason this house is giving me a bad feeling. And I just can’t explain it. The bear, the broken fence, there is definitely something happening to Ana…. And I would be damn if I let something happen to her. I won’t say why but for some reason….I just can’t think of anything else right now….The thoughts of her being hurt….Her possibly being killed….or worse raped….
Shaking his head getting the last thoughts out of his head he knew that wouldn’t happen. She would kill herself before something like that happened. But there was some situation where you couldn’t help it. These thoughts going through his head at a hundred miles per an hour, he couldn’t help it. But what was worse is that the last note he had left her on was him just walking away….And that would be a bad thing. The last picture he had of her was that hurt confused look on her face. And the fear that she had. That is what stung him for a minute freezing and clenching his fist he couldn’t bear the thought of that. Looking around he looked at the building, the door seemed to be in ok condition as if they had been opened with a key or some other object.
Something is wrong here. I sense people in there. But why would someone want to stay there when they know that it is ready to collapse at any minute. The dangers of even dragging someone in there fighting or not, would be too dangerous. The floor structures should be nearly given out, the stairs would be almost completely rotten, and the fact that the house is leaning more to the right than in the middle, that is something else to note. The only thing that someone could be planning to do there is….no…no I mustn’t think of that. Theres no one I know that would want to hurt Ana. At least not that I know….Wait her past….I never got the chance to ask her! |
Suddenly it hit him. He knew that there was something that he didn’t know. The reason Ana never went out far from the town. There was a reason that she stayed with Aroha all the time. It was her past. She was afraid someone was going to hurt her and Aroha. Cursing himself softly he was interrupted by a sudden crash that sounded as if it was glass breaking. And then a serious of yells coming from different people. There was three voices, they sounded around his age younger perhaps. He was twenty one himself, but then the other two voices seem to belong to young adults, ones that seemed to be seventeen eighteen ish. But then something caught his eye. There was something that was blowing in the breeze that was long and pink. And sudden crashes came through the house as the people started heading down the stairs. Then it hit him, there wasn’t anybody in town with pink hair that long, besides for Ana. Suddenly he heard more crashing. And then saw glass shattered where the girl had started for. Taking off into a sprint he came around the corner. Just in time to see glass shatter as a girl held up her hands and shielded her eyes to block off some of the glass. Growing noticing the dress, that was ruined with blood and grass stains now, but no mistaken Ana, Reaching out he grabbed the girl softly away from any glass shards and wrapped around her as the remaining glass penetrated his back and the object struck him which seemed to be sharp and draw some blood. Stumbling forward a bit he looked down to see the ruined Ana. Standing up he sat her down softly on the grass, not knowing if she was still awake. He smiled softly and said in a soft voice. “Wait here, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have left you alone.” There was something that seemed like tears in his eyes as he spoke to her. Turning around she could see the object thrown was a buck knife. And it was stuck cleanly in Zilo’s shoulder. Turning around he noticed the boys there, they had more weapons one of them was carrying a scalpel from the old hospital room. Standing there he reached up with his left hand and brought the buck knife out of his shoulder, grinding his teeth as he did and held it there. The glass in his arms and his back stung, he couldn’t imagine how Ana felt right now, he was just too upset. But he knew that she was feeling worse than he did. Standing up at his full height, of six foot four he stared at the boys. “Now now, you should know better than to hurt a lady boys, you should have been raised better.” He said a small smile on his face that seemed to be a little sick. One that you wouldn’t expect such a kind man to have, lifting himself through the window he landed on his feet and starred at them. Turning the knife around to the military style that his father had taught him if he was in a close range battle he smiled at them. “You hurt someone dear to me just now… That is something I can’t forgive you for. I know I was wrong on leaving her alone and I couldn’t shake that feeling. And standing outside I knew something was wrong with this hospital. And you look like thugs to me….” He said and looked at their markings, and then remembered seeing it somewhere and then it hit him like an old brick. He started laughing seeing the clan markings then thought about Ana and stopped. “Well, lets just say, you’ve picked the wrong lady to attack.” In his past Zilo was hired to kill off gang members, no matter how bad the gang was he never seemed to die. That’s when he was traveling as a higher blade. “Your now dealing with the Crying Rain…” He said his old nickname with hate and disgust. The nickname he hadn’t used in so long, the crying rain… The man that would kill anyone no matter what when he was paid his money, he would see them dead. Also the man that has wiped out entire units himself, standing there he seemed to be ashamed of that name. This would probably put Ana’s suspicions behind her, of why she didn’t trust Zilo. He was the higher merc, then one of death, the one that never shed a tear, but instead had felt that the rain had always cried for him… “Well boys shall we dance?” He said focusing back on them and not Ana. “ Your friend here wants to taste more blood and flesh.” He said moving the buck knife around in circles getting into an attack ready position. Sorry I wasn’t here sooner Ana….I’m truly sorry…. [/style]
[STYLE=font-variant: small-caps; letter-spacing: 2px;]template by falkyrin of btn ![/style]
She didn't open her eyes until the sound of glass falling died away, and when she did was stunned. She was tempted to ask 'what took you so long', as a jest, but decided it was best to hold her tongue on that one. She couldn't stop her eyes from widening, couldn't restrain the relief and fear that blended into a storm in her eyes. She was relieved to see him, but reluctant to admit she was so weak as to need saving. However, he was afraid of what he might discover here about her more than anything. Something else she did not admit to.
Anahera could only stare into Zilo's eyes the whole time. She felt herself being sat down, she noticed him wince, but she was frozen. She had never been rescued like this before, she had never needed it. Anahera had always kept her guard up, preventing herself from being kidnapped or put into a situation where she was being chased or cornered. She never wanted to feel like a frightened rabbit, but at the moment she had felt like a cornered animal. An injured, frightened wolf. But when Zilo spoke to her, she snapped out of it. The ever-so-slight waver in his voice, though to any ears that didn't know it well he sounded perfectly steady; and the extra moisture in his eyes.... She was too stunned, and dizzy, to be angry at him telling her what to do.
It felt like there was a storm in her mind. Thunder and lightning and cold harsh rain, making her mind fogging and unable to think or move. Too many thoughts running through her mind at once, it was why she normally tried not to think too hard, or at all. But the events of this night brought out a side of Anahera she was certain she had buried, and suddenly her body felt too heavy to move. She rested her head on the side of the building and stared into the dark night sky. She hadn't felt this numb in a long time. Still, Anahera had no intentions of just sitting here the whole time. She knew she needed to sit down and rest for a moment, but after that she would join the fray. After all, this was her fight technically. Camus was from her past, not Zilo's. And she would finish their fight where it left off all those years ago, and remove Zilo from finding out about her before it was too late. With this goal in mind, she closed her eyes for a moment, focusing on recovering her sense of balance and her strength in preparation for the fight ahead.
~~~~~~
Recognition flashed in Camus's mind when the man before them introduced himself. You'd have to be a total moron to not know that name, but the two rookies he was with now had no idea. They were too new to this business, too young. He was royally fucked if this guy was really here to fight for Kiri, he doubted he had the skill or brute strength to overcome this man. It would be his luck that two people knew each other, though how he had no clue. "Tch." This was stupid, this wasn't this guy's fight. "Why do you fight for her? This isn't your fight, this has nothing to do with you!" Camus didn't know what it was to care about anyone the way that this man seemed to care about Kiri. He could recognize it, but he had never experienced the reckless desire to protect anyone at any cost. You might call it cowardly.
He called it surviving.
The two younger boys were so shaken, that they themselves became reckless. Camus watched as their mental stability snapped, as though they could sense their own death, and they lunged for the man. Camus rolled his eyes carelessly, annoyed. Annoyed at the uselessness of the two he had with him. They were too new, probably runaways from a wealthy family. They didn't have a clue. And he and the rest of his gang knew that, they were only using them as expendables. Which they played out perfectly. Camus was through taking taunts from this man though, although every survival instinct he had told him to run. He hated running from a fight, but if it meant living to see another day then so be it. He threw a few knives at the man to keep him occupied before spinning on his heels and making a break for the one intact window on the ground floor. He shocked when the glass seemed to explode, and even more shocked to see the direction it exploded.
Inward.
~~~~~~
Anahera landed on the inside with the knuckles of a fist on the ground, one knee on the floor while the ball of her foot and her toes took on the rest of the weight. Her left arm was extended, and she couldn't help but smirk at how long it took the shocked Camus to look at see why. Before breaking in, Anahera had grabbed the nearest sword-like object she could find: a steel pole. Just long enough to replace her sword, the one that had seen her through every battle. Though it still felt odd not having said blade in her hands at this very moment. "Now, now, Camus, surely you weren't running away were you?" She taunted in a low voice, not wanting Zilo to hear that she knew this man's name. She rose to her feet as she spoke, holding the pole out straight towards Camus as though it was a sword. She would end this fight the way it should have ended all those years ago.
"You can't go anywhere, you cowardly bastard!" She spat, not really caring if Zilo heard what she said anymore. Animosity was a dominant trait in the Anahera he knew, and what she said now gave away nothing. "That was a cheap shot you little fucking bastard, and you will pay for it." She was seething with malice, she never thought she could hate someone this much. Camus was visibly shaking now, and part of her pitied him. But.... "I can't let you leave here...." She murmured, not entirely sure if either Camus or Zilo heard it. Without much more warning, she lunged for Camus with the pole. It became an extension of her arm, just as a blade was to a soldier, and she used it to corner him. Striking near his feet, swiping near his arms, missing each time on purpose.
She cornered him just like he cornered others, only she was doing it alone. He used other people to back him up. Once his back hit the wall and he was about to run, Anahera pointed the pole straight at the Adam's Apple of his throat, a cold gleam in her eyes. She had every intention to kill him, but found that she could not. Now that she was so tantalizingly close...she remembered something that prevented her from killing this scum. A growl of frustration rose from her chest, and she lifted the pole before swinging it down and side-swiping Camus's head with it. He hit the floor, unconscious but very much alive. He'll wish I had finished him though...and so will I. She didn't move for a long time before she tossed the pole aside and fell to her knees.
I'm so sorry.... I almost broke my promise to you. Her hands balled into fists against the floorboard as self-loathing started to bubble up within her. She was dizzy again, the adrenaline seeping from her body. She felt weak and heavy again, but just as stubborn as ever. She forced herself to stand and leaned against the wall to help support her weight. It didn't help that her skin was even more torn now, and the glass cut into her with every movement she made, no matter how slight. The palms of her hands were completely red with blood, it was a wonder the pole hadn't come flying from her hands. Her hair shimmered in the moonlight, it was so speckled with shards of glass. And yet, she had one last thing to take care of....
"Did you find it?" She asked, turning her gaze to Zilo. Her eyes were exhausted, and she knew she had explaining to do, but that would come later. "Did you find the bear?" It seemed stupid to worry about something like that, something so easily replaceable, yet she did. There was some part of her that felt that bear could never be replaced. She was relieved by his response, and it showed visibly in her expression and the way her tense shoulders relaxed and lowered slightly. "Good.... Those damned bastards took it from me after they snuck up on me." She said, pausing before shaking her head in disbelief. "Damn.... How did I let this happen?" She said, asking no one in particular. Mostly herself. I'm better than this! I know it! But...I allowed myself to get so damned distracted anyway.... Dammit, why couldn't I think straight?!
Even now, such a task seemed impossible. But now that it was all but over, she wished that Zilo hadn't come for her. Though it meant the world to her that he had, she wished he hadn't seen what he had just seen. Wished that he had not seen her in this condition, battered bleeding but far from broken. Wished that he hadn't seen elements of her past jumping out at her with their claws. Wished that he hadn't seen her cold, calculating, soldier side. But it was done now, and she knew she'd have to explain everything to him at some point. She just wished he hadn't seen it all, so that she didn't have to. So that she could still be the 'Ana' that he knew, the one he came to save. But Anahera would never be that 'Ana' again, he had seen too much. There was no going back at this point.
Growling slightly his anger rising. He was saying a name he hadn’t heard before, tilting slightly he guessed he was referring to Ana. Smiling slightly he stood straight up loosening his shoulder and spoke in a voice that was cold and yet warming to those that could be considered in his care. “She’s my date for the night. And I can’t allow anyone to harm her. And I have failed that inquisition in my position.” Taking the knife as the two rookies ran out him. They where barely in their young adulthood, sighing slightly he spun around one knife, the sound of his coat tearing made his heart race. He had let his guard down because they where so young, and that was something he couldn’t take from them was the chance to live.
The second rookie swung downward, dipping and in a spinning position Zilo came back up driving the end of the knife into the kids jaw, with enough power to just stun him not break anything yet. Turning his attention first attacker drew near him, swinging the scalpel down at Zilo’s neck. Taking small advantage step to the left he moved slightly where the blade skimmed down the front of his shirt. Hissing through the air, suddenly Zilo’s arm came up in a flash. Grabbing the young fighters arm he hurled him into the air straight up. For the young fighters everything seemed to go fast, but to experienced warriors like Ana and Zi, there was a hint of sluggish regret in the movements. Grappling the kid from behind and on his upper jaw enclosed in his hands, the neck of the young boy bounced as it hit Zi’s firm shoulder signaling the throw. As soon as the boy’s neck touched he brought him over flying towards the wall with a sudden thud.
Standing there for a second, the boy was unconscious and possibly a few broken bones here and there. Turning his sight back to the other boy that was starting to head towards their leader he assumed, but then something that surprised Zilo had happened, Instead of the window shattering outwards in came Ana herself and the glass exploding inwards. Cussing slightly remembering that he had told her to stay out of this and rest he had it under control. Watching none of the less, hypnotized by her fluid motions on attacking, she had sent their leader falling backwards with a well placed jump and a small punch to the face. The sound of breaking cartilage reminded Zilo of the battlefield. A small smile came to his face, this was the true Ana. He didn’t care now he saw her fighting side, He also noted she looked kinda cute when pissed.
Turning his attention back towards the younger apprentice trying to scurry out he grabbed the young boy and a simple twist and lift made him fall asleep. Sighing and standing up he noticed Ana speaking to the man and all the sudden a shout broke the silent conversation, blinking softly. There was something different about this side of Ana, even a bit more frightening than the other. Smiling softly he notice the pole in her hands that was pointed like a blade. Her quick movements of attacking the man, hitting his feet and arms, the way she was backing him into the corner, it was just like the Renais army, fifth battalion actions. To draw their enemies in to make the lower their guard, a dangerous technique making them corner but effective.
Then something hit him, the way she pulled it back it looked as if she was going to kill the man. Starting to take a step forward to stop her he held himself there in mid walk, watching knowing it would upset her if he had interfered with her fight. And would make her all the more upset at him than she already was, but then she stopped. Cursing to herself and moving away from the boy she brought the pole around and struck him on the neck knocking him out cold. Nodding in agreement to himself what she had done, he could now see she wished to be away from this life. Walking over to her and squatting she was mumbling to herself. And then she turned to him. Asking, Did you see the bear?” |
That almost made him laugh, she was worried about the bear. Reaching into the inside of his coat he pulled out the bear he had won her and placed it into her arms, then gently folding her arms around it he picked her up close to his chest. The pang of pain went off in his shoulder but he ignored it and smile at her. “Come on, you don’t think I would of forgotten something so important would I?” He said almost a little teasing but truthful. Carrying her out of the building he looked down at her, she was tore up even her dress, sighing softly he leaned down bringing her up and kissed her forehead. “You are crazy, but your still Ana to me you know? Even though you’re a bit scarier now, my opinion for you is still the same. I still think you looked cute in that dress. And now I seem to be flaunting over staying with yall for a long time.”He said looking down at the girl in his arms. She was getting lighter now, it was because he was tuning out the pain in his shoulder. Walking and taking careful steps not to bounce her or anything he thought for a minute. He remembered seeing an apothecary around here some where. Walking silently thinking he used on hand to hold her. Placing it carefully down her spine and on one leg, making sure not to touch her on the ass, because he didn’t feel like being hit. Slipping his coat off that one arm, and then switching arms he had it off. Taking it he draped it over the exhausted Ana that was resting his arms and smiled. “Sorry but the dress was torn and it was a little revealing, I though I might get jealous if someone sees.” Turning a corner the shop stood in front of him. Apothecaries where famous for their healers, opening the door he walked inside looking around. Seeing the prices for some of the healing treatments he sought out the best. Looking around a little bit he saw an elderly woman sitting at a chair, walking over he was whispering to her about Ana, barely in a tone that could be heard. But from the way the elderly woman looked, and dressed she was a druid. Nodding slightly she walked away and came back with a staff and potions. Looking down at Zna he smiled slightly and sat her on the long wooden table gently. He looked at the Druid and nodded, she would have to be alone with Ana, well because it might have to do with the fact potions go on bare skin…And some of her cuts, well…..in places he should not view on a young woman. Turning into a walk he simply walked out the door with one simple phrase, “I’ll wait for you outside of this door, And your still cute in that dress even though it’s a little tore.” Closing the door behind him he stood there sighing. Now all there was to do was wait…. [/style]
[STYLE=font-variant: small-caps; letter-spacing: 2px;]template by falkyrin of btn ![/style]
And even more so when he placed it in her arms and then folded them around the stuffed animal, despite the fact that it stung slightly every time she moved. She was so completely covered in glass, she was certain the moonlight made her look like something supernatural, out of some story book or other. But her mind wasn't there. Anahera's mind was, actually, in a place of sheer exhaustion. It was in this state that she was actually not as violent, neither verbally nor physically. Which was why she didn't protest when Zilo picked her up.
She was a bit shocked by the fact that he was holding her, and not just solely because she was certain her father stopped holding her when she was six -- if not younger. No, it was a couple of things. One being that she was certain he was injured, and two being that she was absolutely certain he would have wanted nothing more to do with her after that. After all, was a temporary boss really worth all this trouble? It made her think that, maybe, she wasn't just a boss to him. Not just a person passing through his life. That, or maybe his level of chivalry was too high to even comprehend. Yes, yes, she was actually thinking. A side of affect of this kind of exhaustion.
His words...they shocked her even more. But not really more than the kiss to her forehead. Even though he was talking, and she was in fact paying attention, most of her attention was on the spot of her forehead that still felt warm and slightly moist. The sigh was something else entirely, and considering the following action she guessed it had been done out of relief. Possibly. She hoped so, she didn't want him to be mad at her. Because, in this state of mind, she knew he had every reason to be. She chuckled at his words, but it wasn't feminine at all. The sound was scratchy, raspy, almost as if glass had entered her throat and torn it pieces.
But that wasn't possible.
Something like that would have killed her, and her mouth had never been open when she was crashing through the windows. "I should probably be more than just a little scary to you now, Zilo. From a 'survival' point of view." Which was true. If nothing else, this night showed that being around her could prove to be dangerous. That was not something a traveler like Zilo needed -- his life at risk, and people that knew his face. Both of which she had managed to accomplish tonight. No doubt, if he came back here after this whole festival was over, they'd come after him. Just for being shown to have been in alliance with 'Kiri' for whatever reason. "But," she added, having to pause to swallow and moisten her throat, "I'm glad...that you feel that way."
In all honestly, she was acting loopy. Her voice was as raspy as her chuckle had been, and she spoke in a low tone. She could feel her consciousness start to slip away, if for no other reason than her exhaustion. She was dead beat tired, but she was far from dieing. It would take a lot more to make her lay down and accept defeat in the form of death. But it was fairly easy to tell, just from the exhausted relief in her eyes and the oh-so-rare gentle tone of her voice that she was clearly out of it. Not in the sense that she didn't mean her words, they were honest. But in the sense that she was just too tired to be her usual spitfire self.
As they walked -- or rather, as Zilo and as she was carried -- Anahera started to feel the inviting depths of sleep start to overwhelm her body and mind. She turned her head, leaning it so that her forehead rested against Zilo's shoulder. His scent was mixed with the scent of blood, but she paid it no mind, she was used to that scent. She tuned it out and focused on Zilo's scent alone, letting it envelope her and comfort her, let it relax her still somewhat tense muscles. She hadn't realized she had fallen asleep until Zilo readjusted her position and then draped his coat over her body.
Still groggy, she looked up at him with a raised brow and confused gaze, which only seemed to intensify at his explanation. "Jealous?" She repeated, not angry or judgmental, just trying to wrap her mind around the concept. Zilo? Jealous? Of what? Of other men looking at her? Why would you be jealous?" She asked, her voice spoken in a low, soft note and a little less raspy than it was before. She had always been quick to recover, years of not getting a full night's worth of restful sleep can have that affect on a person. She was used to being able to function on little to no useful, restful sleep. Because there was 'sleep', and then there was 'restful sleep'. And she had just been given the luxury of a few moments of 'restful sleep', right there in Zilo's arms.
They came up to an apothecary shortly after, and Anahera felt her heart sink. This was almost just as bad as a full-blown hospital. She didn't like doctors, of any kind. But, again, she was far too tired to put up much of a protest. The only protesting she did do, was when Zilo set her down on a bed and started to leave. Still clutching the bear to her chest with one arm, she reached out for him with the other, her hand grazing his for a moment, but she was stopped. Not only by Zilo's quick movements and words, since he was out of reach before her hand could reach his, but also out of fear. Of a different nature than what she had just gone through.
She was too much of coward to reach for him.
Anahera retracted her hand then and nodded, understanding why he had to be outside the room and agreeing with it. To some degree. She wanted him there, but not once the druid woman started removing her dress.... The process took a lot less time than she had thought it would, and it seemed like in a few hours she was feeling a lot better. Her wounds were mostly healed, already beginning to close, and she felt rested. Anahera raised a brow at the old woman, she admired her. With rest, returned Anaher'a sharp tongue, and the old woman had dealt with it in stride. She respected her for that. "Healing magic?" She guessed, and when the old woman nodded with a smirk Anahera couldn't help but dramatically rolling her eyes.
"Show-off."
This only made the woman chuckle and exit the room, no doubt to fetch Zilo. If he's even still there.... Anahera brought her knees up to her face, lowering her head and curling her back so that her knees reached the same height as her forehead, but her forehead was not actually rested on them. Despite the fact that he had promised he would be waiting outside the door -- more or less -- Anahera had a sinking feeling that he might not be. That he might have decided enough was enough, and have left. She feared this, she really did. And that good 'ole exhaustion came and dulled her mind from being able to focus much on hiding it. She was alone in the room, there was no one there to see.
With each second that ticked by, concern and fear that the old druid would walk back into the room alone and shrug stabbed at her heart like needles. With each second that Zilo didn't enter the room, she clutched the bear to her chest tighter, her brows furrowed and her eyes saddened. There were no more shards of glass covering her body, no more glittering shards in her hair. Making her sparkle and glow like some unworldly thing. And yet, in this tense, pensive moments, she looked more like a shell of the 'Ana' Zilo and Aroha had come to know than ever before.
She shot up anxiously, eyes wide and reflecting some of her fears, when the door finally begun to open....
He wasn’t sure what was taking the doctor so long with Ana, it worried him a little bit and made him think that there was more wrong with her than what he had originally believed. And that was something he didn’t want to think about too much and that was something he rather wasn’t true. But then suddenly the door swung open and there the lady was standing smiling at him and waving for him to come. Laughing softly he stood up and began to walk over to where she was and then notice something. The lady had a slight fatigue look to her and it almost made him smile. “Well I’ll be damned I didn’t think I had found a druid when I brought her here.” That almost made all the night better. Was the fact he had taken ana to someone that could care for her faster than most in this neighborhood, and that was something to be happy about, entering the room he saw Ana sitting there right where he had left her. She looked better now, that most of the cuts and stuff where gone, and so was the glass that was in her.
Walking over to Ana and sitting down beside her he smiled a little bit. “You had me worried there for a while. Time sure does go by fast when you’re sitting there waiting on someone and know that they may be hurt for a while. But what I didn’t expect was that I found a druid to take care of you, I thought this lady was a normal Physician at first. But now I see it a bit differently with how tired she looked when she came out. Anyway enough about her and what I was doing. But the Question is really. Are you ok?” He said looking at her wondering, and disappointed that he hadn’t helped her sooner when she first disappeared. And why didn’t he stay with her even though he knew most of it wasn’t exactly her fault, but his own. But he didn’t want to think about it.
He didn’t want to blame himself for causing her pain. But he knew that he did. In the middle of his thoughts a bell rang and it surprised him. Turning around he looked at the clock in the small room. It read it was nearly midnight. Blinking a little bit he thought about Anas store and how the little girl was there all alone. Cringing a little bit he turned back to Ana and smiled softly and leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “Woman sheesh, always making a guy worry, if it ain’t you, it’s you’re the other little you.” He said teasing her a bit about how Aohra, was acting the same way she did sometimes when it came to fights. And somehow the little one always won. Which he knew they were both stubborn headed so that wasn’t a first. But still he was curious of who they really where to each other.
Standing up he thought for a minute his shoulder was still messed up but the old woman was still tired a bit. Smiling softly he put a hand under Anas leg and picked her up carefully and started to walk out. “But what can I say I’m a bodyguard to a rock, and a wall. And god be truthful I love it more than you can think.” He said laughing out loud. Looking down at her he notice she was tired herself and leaned down to whisper into her ear softly and quietly. “Lets’ get you home. You’re in no condition to be out here in the cold. Your tired, your clothes are a bit torn, and what a waste of a dress. Remind me to buy you a new one. Just like that one. Because I like seeing you in it.”
Walking a little bit he decided to ask one last thing of Ana and looked down at her and smiled gently and spoke in a voice almost soft and almost in a way of understanding. “Hey there is one thing I want you to do though. I don’t want you to get discouraged and think just because of this I don’t see you how you are now. No I see you in a different light that’s for sure. But I will let you know now. That Zilo Telavu the crying Rain, is your bodyguard, and loyal Butler.” Laughing a little bit as he said the last part to her.
Walking along a bit and looking around it seemed that most of the fair was still alive and full of people dancing and moving around that it was almost funny for him in a way. And he didn’t expect anyone to be still dancing and jumping, and throwing things around. He had been out of social events for such a long time that it didn’t make sense to him anymore and now he understood why. It wasn’t everyday that you see everyone in a good mood and a little bit more talkative. Thinking a minute he could swear he heard something a moment ago when he was carrying her and then remembered. Smiling down at her he asked a simple question. “Hey Princess, still carrying that bear that I won ya?” He said in a sincere but teasing way.
Sure he could of used her name, but he called her princess and thought for a moment. “You shouldn’t be called ogre, or maiden of war, but princess it suits a beauty like you. Maybe one day we can get ya married to a noble man, get ya a nice castle, set you and aohra up for a long time to come. Than you won’t need this rambling fool with ya all the time. Why hell no you could have thousands of people helping ya and taking care of your little twin. And possibly be able to afford things you prefer to wear instead of having to sit there and wait for shipments to come in. But to be honest that life doesn’t suit you to well. I’d give you four days like that and someone would be dead, or have their ear driven off by your yelling, and possibly threatening.”
He could still leave at any time -- for all she knew, the moment they walked out of that apothecary she would be nothing more than a distant memory to him -- but he was here now. That was all she really registered. Anahera forced the voices in the back of her mind into silence, she didn't want to hear them. She didn't want to hear the illogical sense of relief she felt at seeing him there, walking towards her. Sitting down next to her and talking. An actual smile, albeit a small one, tugging at the edges of her mouth when Zilo smiled at her; and she let it slip. "I'm fine." She said, her voice less raspy now that she felt somewhat more rested. And yet exhausted all at once...but she fought it from her gaze.
Anahera tensed instantly when she heard the bell toll, not because of the time but because the sound itself startled her. She mentally scorned herself for being so jumpy, but she knew she would be until they left the city. She had left Camus alive, and although it would exceedingly stupid for him to come after her again, she knew it was still a possibility. Because of that, she doubted she would be able to stay for the ball. Her nerves wouldn't be handle it. Not only for Zilo, but also for Aroha. Even though she knew Aroha was relatively safe in Stanimir, since Camus's gang was based here and he didn't know about the young teen in Anahera's care. But thoughts of all those things were broken when Zilo forced himself back into her mind by kissing her forehead again. She was beginning to get to comfortable with that. She knew it too, there just wasn't anything to be done about it.
Anahera, now that she was healed, was beginning to return to her old self. And because she was tired, she was starting to feel grumpy. Because of this, she almost retorted with something bitter when Zilo teased her about making him worry, and how it was Aroha who made him worry when it wasn't her. She almost said something, she opened her mouth to say it. But she was relieved when Zilo cut her off, because his words silenced her retort dead. He...actually loves it? It his job? It shocked her to hear it, stunned her to silence. Which was evident in her slackened jaw, slightly open mouth, and widened eyes. But that expression was only on her face while he was laughing. It relaxed soon after, tired and thoughtful. Was it only the job that he loved? Did that even really matter?
She noticed then that he had picked her up again. Damn, was she so out of it that she noticed everything he did and yet missed the most important details? This definitely fell under the category of things she shouldn't get used to, and yet here she was. Getting perfectly used to it. Comfortable even. She didn't speak after he did, getting lost in thought again as the edges of her temper slipped away once more. He liked the dress on her, he had said it again. For the umpteenth time that night. Only now, he offered to buy her another one just like it, another kimono. Because this one was far too torn to wear anywhere again. Anahera didn't really acknowledge his words, only rested her head on his shoulder lightly. She couldn't remember if this was the shoulder that was wounded, so she moved her head down, so that most of the weight was more on his collarbone than his shoulder, and rested her head there.
She knew she would never allow him to spend the amount of money it would take to buy her another dress just like this. A man like him needed to save his money for survival, he didn't have the luxury of being rich and capable of throwing his money around. Especially since he wasn't accepting payment for his services at the store. But she decided not to say that. The silence was something that she both enjoyed and cursed, as it was beginning to lull her into sleep, and she didn't want to fall asleep now. But luckily for her, Zilo's voice broke her from that spell once again. His voice was smooth and gentle, and his words made her throat tighten. He was pledging a loyalty to her that she hadn't expected him to have, and if she didn't have as much control of herself as she did she probably would have started crying. What had she done to deserve that? Nothing. She didn't do anything to deserve his loyalty and kindness.
"I don't deserve that." She mumbled, shifting her weight so that she could be closer to him without putting too much pressure on his shoulder. "Of course I do." She said when he asked about the bear, chuckling at his teasing tone and gripping the stuffed animal tighter to her as she was reminded about it. She made a mental note to take his money out of it when they got back to the store and then sew it back up. She owed him at least that much, and it wouldn't damage the bear any. Plus it really was his money, keeping it in the bear would be equivalent to stealing. And then Zilo started talking more about her being a princess, and it really sunk in that he called her that. She didn't deserve that either, but she listened closely. Eyes open and focused though she wasn't looking at him.
Anahera hadn't expected herself to say anything, never mind say what she did say. "You're right." She agreed. "I'd pitch a fit, probably even on the first day." She corrected, still unable to figure out what the hell she was doing and why she couldn't get herself to shut up. Wonderful example of word vomit. "I'm not used to living like that, and I never could get used to it. Being provided for, taken care of...that isn't my lifestyle." She was repeating herself. And a bit of what Zilo had said too. "And besides," she added, mentally willing herself to shut up before she said something she would regret, "I wouldn't want a horde of butlers to boss around." She said, pausing for a moment, but she decided to just come out with it. She'd already said quite a bit. "I only need one." She closed her eyes after that, bracing herself for the 'you overstepped a boundary' reaction. "And besides, I wouldn't want to marry someone for the sake of their money."
There, saving grace. Maybe now all that she said wasn't so bad.
Especially when he mentioned her dress once again, going quiet for once this night he continued to walk her in silence, he could sense the agitation that was growing in her. Even through the last part of what she was saying. Inside sighing a little bit he continued to carry her towards the small store in which Aohra resided. And he knew that she was tired and was coming back to her normal self that she wasn’t going to deal with Zilo as she had done moment before. And that is why he stopped his smile and continued to carry her. Even though he knew that she was like this and it was something he had gotten use to it didn’t change the fact that he knew another side of her.
But he didn’t plan to tell a soul at all, about the Ana that he had seen tonight. Instead he had decided that when she wakes up from being so exhausted she may even think that this was a dream she was having. But that was something he was willing to happen. When he heard her speak "And besides, I wouldn't want to marry someone for the sake of their money." This almost made him smile again. When they had been walking for a bit in silence he finally spoke in the same tone that she had meet him on the first day. The one that was cold and let little emotion, but one that was almost relaxing when it finally stopped, and made you feel normal and you could trust the man that was standing here and talking to ya without the suspicion that he was going to do something.
“Alright then, well tomorrow I have to take care of the orders coming in. Take care of the floors and wipe the cabinets. And do the stocks and make sure everything is on the shelf. But that’s for tomorrow, go to sleep, and you’ll wake up in bed. So this never happened, and I’m sorry that it did while we are here and now. But it would be best if we stop this chagrin that we are both putting on I suppose. I’m a worker and your and employer I’m sorry for what I have done tonight it wasn’t protocol, and I shouldn’t have done it. Let alone take you out to the fair I should of let you take someone else, and been with some other guy that you know a bit better.” Ending his little monologue he knew that she had been grumpy already.
Walking with her half asleep was easy enough he just had to be quiet the rest of the way to the house. That way she had enough sleep and nothing would go wrong tomorrow, and that was what everyone was probably wishing for. When he got her back to the store he would probably tell Aohra to pretend that nothing had happened that night, and that Ana would check the closet tomorrow to see if the dress she had worn tonight was still in shreds, but it would be replaced in the morning with a brand new one. That was exactly the same in size, shape, smell, and even the stitching would be the same by the time Ana woke up. And that is what he planned on. There would still be the tag, that Ana had to take off today since it was her first time wearing the kimono.
The streets where a bit dark on the way out of the festival, since many businesses where closed and there wasn’t really anything that you could do. The laterns where blown out, and the horse stables where closed, so it provided no light on the inside, and that was a good thing. There was no one in sight on the way back, over the course of the time it took to set the festival up, it was quicker to make this place turn into a ghost town while that placed thrived with life. It seemed the later it got the brighter it got back there. Your bars where even closed, but there was one shop he knew that had their lights still on, sure it was a far walk from here but he knew that they held a dress that perfectly matched the one that Ana had. And he planned to get it.
Sure it wasn’t going to be fun letting Ana believe that all of this was a dream. But he had kissed her forehead, let her get comfortable, and in the end agitate her a little with the dress. But that was his doing and his nature, he felt sorry that he had ruined it. And he was prepared to fix it. And that was something he was planning on doing for her even if he got a little bit of sleep, and hell he didn’t even live in the same place as Ana so it made it easier, just walk in stick the dress in the closet, walk out, her wounds all healed nothing wrong, his shoulder will be out of sight, and no one can see it. All this planning and for what you may ask. Well it was for Ana to feel like it was everyday comfortable.
Now the question was, how would he get Aohra to go along with this if she was still waiting for them to be back, maybe he will act like he never went, make it seem that the two of them had the same dream if they awoke, or he would tell Aohra what would happen if Ana awoke and her dress was really torn, and that she was brought back half naked at most, covered in only Zilos coat. That wasn’t something even Aohra would want Ana to be. That would be like asking the devil he wants to drink a glass of holy water. Or even a woman on her period times ten. Or even worse a woman that was pregnant. And that would be something they would both pay for. Well he had a little while till he got back. Knowing this Zilo still had time to plan how to get Aohra to go along with it.
